Imagine that you were given keys to a beautiful mansion. This mansion is enormous with many levels consisting of spacious rooms, filled with light and beauty. As you move into this mansion, you decide for some reason to live in just one room of your mansion. After living in this room for a length of time, you forget that you even have a mansion available to you on the other side of the door. Your life becomes safe, comfortable, routine and you are happy.
Then one night, you begin hearing strange noises coming from the other side of the door. Having forgotten that you own a mansion, you hide under your covers in fear and bar the door from anything coming into your room. And you dare not venture out!
Night after night the noise continues and you begin to realize that you cannot continue living like this. You build up your courage over the next weeks and months and finally have enough courage to open the door to see what is making the noise.
As you open the door, you first notice a hallway with lots of different rooms. As you open the doors to these rooms, you find some filled with gifts and treasures of all kinds. Other rooms are dark and a bit scary so you immediately shut those doors.
As you continue to explore this new world beyond your one small room, you are amazed at all it contains. You can’t believe it has been there all along, waiting for you to simply move past your fear and open the door!
You continue to explore this new place and begin feeling comfortable in your new, expanded surroundings. The many rooms have offered you an entirely new experience and life feels fun again. As you continue to settle in, you begin to wonder why some of the rooms are still dark and what they might contain. You start having a desire to live in your entire mansion; to throw the doors and windows wide open to let in as much light as possible.
So one by one, you begin opening the rooms that are still dark. You have learned by now how to overcome your fears and you are ready to see what you need to see. As you are ready to open the first door, you have a sense that something exists on the other side that you have not wanted to see. It feels painful but you keep moving forward. When you open the door, you see a small child huddled in the corner. You know right away that the child is afraid and lonely and, overcoming your fear, you rush to that child to hold her and reassure her that everything is ok. She is now safe and protected in your arms.
While you are holding this child, you soon realize there is something very familiar about her. You feel like you know her but you don’t know how. She begins to communicate with you and you soon realize she is an aspect of yourself that has been hiding in that room because of something she experienced. Life became scary for her and she retreated into this small, dark place.
As you hold her and reassure her, you feel her relax and begin to feel safe in your arms. You ask if she is ready to turn on the light in the room and she nods yes. You lead her to the light and you are with her as she turns the light on. With the light on, you can now see all of the wonderful things in the room that have always been there but that you couldn’t see. The child, filled with excitement, begins showing you all of the wonderful things she has collected and she tells you everything in the room is now yours, too. You spend many hours with each other and as you leave the room, you realize this room has now become part of our mansion and you can come to visit it any time you desire.
I use the analogy of the mansion because our energy/spirit/soul is that big. While you are living in one room of that mansion, you are living in just one corner of your reality. Once you begin opening doors and expanding into who you really are, you begin living in the entire fish tank and what a waits in that expanded field is nothing less than amazing.
