When I was in my 20’s, I remember times of being alone in my car, driving on some open road and screaming at the top of my lungs.  The frustration, anger and overwhelm would get to a boiling point and it felt like if I didn’t release it, I would explode.

I didn’t know what (or why) I needed to release until years later.  Between counseling, which helped me understand where these feelings were coming from, and the Inner Diamond meditation that helped me transform these emotions without the need to scream, I began to understand where these emotions came from and how to transform them and totally release them from my energy field. It turned out that most of these pent-up emotions were from a childhood where it wasn’t okay to express my feelings, especially anger.

When we are not able to freely express ourselves, the energy of those strong emotions are suppressed and they sit somewhere in your emotional body. They can then create symptoms of depression, anxiety, and low- level frustration which result in physical symptoms of pain, stiffness and a feeling of not being able to breathe.

What I have learned over the years, is that energy needs to move and if it does not have a safe outlet, it will come out sideways or gets sparked when something gets triggered.

Over the years I have talked to several people who think that becoming conscious or enlightened means that they will live in a state of constant bliss … that you are now able to transcend feelings and emotions and live in a state of perfect harmony.

This is something called a ‘spiritual illusion’ … thinking that living in an expanded state of consciousness means that we will be above and not affected by feelings of grief, anger, jealousy, etc.  As long as we live in a third dimensional world and in a human body with thoughts and emotions, we will continue to feel emotions.  It is part of the human condition.

Expressing our emotions is good, healthy and necessary when they do not come out sideways or from what feels like out of nowhere when we’re triggered by something or someone.

There are many good programs available to help us with healing emotions.  The two that have helped me in the past are Emotional Freedom Technique and the Sedona Method, along with the Inner Diamond Meditation program.

It is good to know that we do not have to figure everything out by ourselves and there are people around us to help.  Taking a step towards that is up to us.
